I had a random thought last night. Even though I've known that Lohengrin and some legends about girls turning into swans inspired Swan Lake, I've never really noticed until now how similar the plots are. I mean: Evil magic user does a spell that creates the main problem/confict, white swan is threatened by death, handsome man saves white swan, strange conditions are put forth that also further the plot, black swan is temporarily defeated, black swan tricks white swan and/or handsome man, handsome man leaves/dies, white swan dies of despair. So- my question (and the subject matter for the contest) is... WHAT IF LOHENGRIN WAS THE BALLET AND SWAN LAKE WAS THE OPERA? Some ideas (but you certainly aren't limited to these)- what would Elsa's Dream look like as a Variation? Or the several duets (Telarmund and Otrud's at the beginning of Act 2, the Elsa/Otrud duet, and the ElsaxLoh duet in Act 3) look like as PDD's? What would the voices and arias of Swan Lake's character's be like? You can use ANY MEDIUM as long as you get your point across, fit the theme, can get the feel of movement or the peice being sung, and of course add beauty and complexity. I'll decide on prizes later. You can certainly use costumes, sets, and new music as well! ^_^ Let you imaginations FLY! (Pun somewhat intended). You have until April 15th, 2012 and can submit as many entries as you want or have them count as a large series if you're thinking of doing the peice in it's entirety.
